Songwriting: Bridge Puzzles and Missing Sky Pieces
Work is continuing apace on the album. So far, of our podcasts, I’m pretty sure only the November 3rd Demo will be on it. But that could change. We have about 16 or so strong pieces that we like a lot, and we’ll probably weed that down to 9 or 10 songs. The rest will be saved for either a second album, or podcasts, or our Greatest Hits Anthology Ginormous Box Set.

We had a blast recording last night; a song tentatively titled “Writing on the Wall” had it’s bridge worked out, after two hours of sweat. The first bridge we came up with sounded acceptable to my ears, but Mike just wasn’t satisfied with it. We played around with a different chord arrangement for about an hour, and then realized it wasn’t syncing up with our drum machine (This is a limitation when you don’t have a real drummer, and all the good drum programmers are out of reach. But limitations are great for art).
Another hour and we finally found the right chords for the space, and the bass and drums and cymbals and everything fell into place. I observed that sometimes making music is like having a missing puzzle piece; Mike laments that it was one of those missing “sky pieces” in a landscape puzzle.
Maybe we can podcast the two bridges later sometime to illustrate the difference, minus the sweat.
