Received this in the post today, smeared in places with hurried ink:
Ok, so men may I be bold and challenge you to gold, or platinum.
I was visiting the mySpace page (for the greatest basement band this side of the Mississippi river) and I noticed two older song posts that were/are quite good: “EightyOne” and “Harry Frank and Bob”. These are works that deserve publication and polish.
The music is already so strong.
I would love to add these to my iPod playlist titled “Play Often”. These pieces are ready to graduate from the bulletin board.
If I am in error and they are done, then please accept my pardons. But if they are among the ranks of the ‘awaiting attention’ group, then please accept my prodding. I am not alone in my interest. If you will so kindly note, these two song posts rank far higher in #of plays than any other posted song.
Just a note of encouragement from your loyal and vocal fans*. Jeffrey
*I am not a voted on voice of the majority, but I merely cast my lamp upon the evidence that indicates the wishes of your fans.
Thank you, good sir. Those are a great couple of tracks, and whenever some sort of album happens, I agree heartily. Those two are standouts and should appear therein. I think Frank, Hank, and Bob could do with a little more exploratory writing and playing. Eighty-One I feel very happy about the arrangement and recording. It would be a heckuva lot of fun to play that one live, with a real drummer. Thanks for the encouragement, Jeffrey.
Mike dug this old one up from somewhere. It’s a huge Bill Frisell rip-off - wait - let’s call it an ode. Love ya, Bill. I missed you when you were in Louie-ville.
Hey folks, hopefully by the end of the week. Long weekend here, and we actually have an agenda for tonight’s session!! There’s a song I need temporary lyrics for called, “I Could Be Wrong” so I’m going to go now and write them!
Low Flying Onion, if you’re reading this, shoot me an email at thejambros@gmail.com. So good to see your comment. Don’t be a stranger on the blog here!
We’ve gone off the rails again, but in a very good way; at some point we realized if we want final recordings to start happening on songs, we need a modest upgrade of some equipment. And of course, Mike would be quick to kick me in the shins, shouting “LYRICS!”. Yeah, I guess we need those too. What, you not satisfied with the opening line of Writing Demo?? What to you does not make sense about “Settin’ watchin’ riding maw”??
All right. Point taken. Just need some coffee and time with a notebook. I did recently try writing/typing lyrics, and it was interesting…..will have to blog about that…
So, speaking of derailments, we’ve been jamming a lot the last few sessions. And coming up with mostly awesome stuff. So our “needs further development board” is full. What we’re going to do now is try some non-commital-but-yeah-nearly-final recordings of the complete stuff on board B. Couple that with arranging and recording stuff from board A and I think we have an agenda for this weekend.
New podcast next week for sure. *kicks Mike in shin*
Here’s the original germ of an idea for a song tentatively titled “Writing on the Wall”. We’ve since worked out a (sort of) chorus and (definite) bridge. We like the jam at the end; I’m sure the final will retain it as an instrumental outro. Mike says he’s remixing this demo so I may edit this post later with that version.
Anyway, this is an idea we like a lot and it’s coming along in development. As always, not sure where the lyrics are leading but I did improvise “see the writing on the wall” for the first line. That could lead to some interesting places, lyrically. This version is before the “writing on the wall” line.
John on guitar and vocal, Mike on bass. Sorry about my guitar crackle….This is one of our first “finished” songs. This is the “coffeehouse version” without the Wurlitzer, backup singers, dancers, second guitar, horns, string section, drummer and percussionists.
